Dr Kate Crawford BA(HONS), PHD

Dr Kate Crawford is an author, academic and composer. She is an Associate Professor in the Journalism and Media Research Centre the University of New South Wales, where she specialises in the cultural implications of emerging technologies. She currently holds an Australian Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship to research the uses of mobile media around Australia. Her book Adult Themes (Macmillan) won the individual category of the Manning Clark House National Cultural Award.

Her creative work spans across the domains of electronic music, film and dance soundtracks, sound installations, popular music and sound art. She has released three albums and four EPs in the electronic duo B(if)tek, and has a forthcoming album in her new project Clone. Kate hosted the 9-part series on experimental music for ABC TV called Set , which featured the music of The Necks, Robin Fox and Oren Ambarchi.

Kate Crawford is a Fellow of the Centre for Policy Development, on the committee of the Cultural Research Network and is on the editorial boards of Fibreculture and Media International Australia.
