Kristy Ayre
Kristy Ayre is a Melbourne based performer, teacher, choreographer and producer who graduated from the VCA in 2001.
Over the past decade she has collaborated and performed for Melbourne dance company Chunky Move, performing in over a dozen of the company’s works including Glow, Mortal Engine and Tense Dave. In addition to this, Kristy has also performed in works for Lucy Guerin Inc, Shelley Lasica, Frances D’ath, Itoh Kim (Japan), Prue Lang and is a collaborator and performer for Luke George’s LIFESIZE and Now Now Now.
As a choreographer, Kristy created and performed rabbeat as part of Lucy Guerin Inc’s 2008 Pieces for Small Spaces, choreographed and performed the palindromist, in collaboration with Nick Roux, a short dance film commissioned for the 2010 Next Wave Festival. This film was recently selected to screen as part of Cinedans in Amsterdam, December 2011.
Kristy was Choreographic Assistant for Eddie Perfect’s Shane Warne the Musical and Choreographic Consultant and Senior Performer for Dario Vacirca’s TOYS. She was a participating Artist in the inaugural Splendid Arts Lab.
Since July 2010 Kristy has been Class Curator for Chunky Move’s Professional and Public dance programs and is currently, the senior teacher for their Koori Engagement Program.
In May 2011, Kristy began working as an Associate Producer for Next Wave. She will oversee the projects of 10 of Australia’s finest young and emerging artists contributing work for the 2012 Next Wave Festival.
Looking toward next year, Kristy will continue to work for Next Wave and the 2012 Next Wave Festival – The space between us wants to sing, will perform in the Australian Premiere of Lee Serle’s P.O.V, tour with Luke George’s Now Now Now and hopes to complete a new short dance film in collaboration with Nick Roux.
