The Building

Ngargee is a contemporary arts centre situated right in the centre of Melbourne’s vibrant and growing arts precinct at 111 Sturt Street, Southbank.

The building houses Chunky Move’s studios and office space, the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art galleries and is next door to Malthouse Theatre. Ngargee (pronounced na-jee) is a Boonerwrung and eastern Kulin word meaning dance or festival.

Designed by award-winning architects Wood Marsh and built by LU Simon, the building has an Uluru-like presence, enhanced by an exterior clad in a special steel product that develops its own protective rust coating.
